AUGLAIZE COUNTY, OHIO (WLIO) - Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Auglaize County Wednesday afternoon.
The Wapakoneta post of the State Patrol says it happened just after 2:30 pm on U.S. 33, just west of the Blackhoof Street exit. Troopers say a GMC Savana driven by 61-year-old Ricky Smith of Cridersville was westbound on 33. A Ford Expedition driven by 18-year-old Elbert Capelle of Celina attempted to pass on the left side. The Ford then went back into the right lane, striking the GMC and sending it off the right side of the road. The Ford Expedition then veered left, striking a raised median and going airborne. The Ford landed in the eastbound lane and overturned. The driver of the Ford, Elbert Capelle, was ejected and suffered serious injuries. A passenger in the Ford, 19-year-old Carmichael Capelle was also injured. Both were taken to Lima Memorial by Wapak EMS. The driver of THE GMC was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
