ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Bear Hollow Wood Carvers are taking the Allen County Fair by storm, creating beautiful art out of wood logs. They gave us a little more insight into the works they're creating at the Allen County Fair.

Back in April, we saw this group create a giant sasquatch in Mercer County, which was amazing, but actually seeing a live show was completely different! Spectators surrounded the Bear Hollow Wood Carvers' live show to see some of their favorite animals and things come to life—all from a log of wood.
"Most of the time, I carve stuff that, you know, you're going to see at the fair. So I try to do cattle, sheep, pigs, things like that, some chickens, sometimes I'll throw a goose in there, something a little different. People like to see the eagles, anything with an eagle on it, I'll do a couple of those, and then the American Flag, I always carve a flag. Lately, I've been starting to do some Ohio State stuff, so that seems to do pretty good in the auctions as well," said Jason Stoner, Bear Hollow Wood Carvers.
Bear Hollow Wood Carvers love seeing the excitement on people's faces while giving people a fun, fair experience and something they can tell their friends all about.
It's fair to say that Jason has been doing this for quite some time now, but it makes you wonder how an artist such as himself can do what he can do under a time limit when, in most cases, he would spend at least a day on just one piece.
"Doing it for thirteen years, it's, I don't know, you just kind of get used to it. You're body kind of get used to holding the saws, and you just get in there and I see the images in my mind and I just put it into the wood, take everything out or off the log that just doesn't belong," explained Stoner.
This Saturday, everyone will have an opportunity to win any of the wood carving pieces in an auction, with the proceeds going to the 4-H program!
Jason is no stranger to doing shows at fairs or other various events around the country, but doing a total of 21 carvings this week can be looked at as challenging in terms of what exactly to carve.
"If you hit that fair the next year, you want to try to make some things that are a little different so you then you got to start coming up with some new ideas and that could be tough, you know? But instead of just having a cow standing, the next time you might just do a cow head. You just kind of do different things, you kind of carve different pieces," said Stoner.

"I enjoy the people, you know, coming out and talking to people, and then seeing the same guys on the fairboard year after year, they're always a good time. You make friends, and that's probably my favorite part of it," added Stoner.
