OTTAWA, OH (WLIO) - We are hours away from the primary election, and one Republican Senate candidate is rallying support from local voters.
Bernie Moreno talked to a packed house at the Well Grounded Café in Ottawa. Moreno is in a tight race with Secretary of State Frank LaRose and State Senator Matt Dolan to become the Republican nominee to face Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown in the fall. Moreno says he supports an America first agenda, and one of the big issues on that agenda is dealing with the migrants coming across the southern border.
"They are sick and tired of the government selling them out. They are sick and tired of putting, that they put the interest of other countries, people from other countries ahead of the interest of Americans," says Bernie Moreno, Republican Senate candidate. "That doesn't seem that it shouldn't be controversial or even a question. But the reality is that Americans feel it. This year, our government giving, taking better care of foreign citizens than our own people. That's got to change."
Senator JD Vance has endorsed Moreno, and he says this election is big for shaping the Republican Party moving forward.
"Is it going to be a party that is going to put Americans first? Because if that is your view, then Bernie Moreno is your guy," says Senator JD Vance, Ohio's Republican Senator. "Or is it going to be the Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney party that sends all of our money overseas and doesn't care about the citizens of this country? So, we have a really, really, huge choice we are going to have to make as a Republican Party. I think we are going to choose to be the party of American First, so we are going to choose Bernie Moreno."
