Local businesses learned how they could improve the skills of their workforce with the "Tech Cred" program.
The program allows businesses to send their employees to places like Apollo Career Center, Ohio State Lima, University of Northwestern Ohio, and Rhodes State College. Then the businesses will be reimbursed up to $2,000 for the cost of the education. The local education institutions shared what training programs they can offer businesses and explained how the Tech Cred program works for their schools.
“The employers will benefit by upscaling their workforce. So, if there are skills that need to be had, so let's say you have maintenance folks that need electrical work, you could have them go through electrical training and upscale their skillset to be able to better serve your organization,” says Keith Horner, superintendent of Apollo.
“We'll have a class of apprentices every year. Any additional training, they're all for it. You know, especially in their early parts of their career where they're just starting off, so and we're already starting to recruit for this next year's class,” states Dean Kales, the training coordinator of Grob Systems in Bluffton.
During the last budget, the State of Ohio set aside 15 million dollars for the Tech Cred program.
