Camp Woodhaven hosts Spring Break Day Camp

Making new friends, and making the most of spring break!

The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio offered a Spring Break Day Camp at Camp Woodhaven in Lima. The program is specifically designed for girls who have not yet had the chance to experience the Girl Scouts for themselves.

The program is girl-led, meaning the girls have a say in not only the rules but also what sort of activities they get to do.

"It's important for us to make sure that they're having their own experience," says Jennifer Parker, Community Engagement Manager. "We help them make their own decisions so they have buy into what they're doing and so we know that they're enjoying what they're doing because they help make those decisions."

Over the two day camp, the girls will do team building exercises and hear from the owner of Sara's Sweets about owning a business. They will also hear from a fashion designer at David's Bridal about their job and how it takes them around the world.

The girls also got to explore different cultures as a part of their program. They learned how to do origami from Japan, play games from Switzerland, and they got a taste of what it is like to practice yoga as they do in India.

It is a lot of new experiences but if you ask the girls there the best experience of all is the chance to make new friends.

"You get to do a lot of fun things and you get to make new friends," says Jazmine Hendrickson, 9.

"You get to meet new people and just get to do new things," says Aleksei Jackson, 10. "You get to go places rather than just stay at home."

"Because whenever you have friends, it feels like you're just having so much fun," says Aundre'a Little, 7.

So every girl will leave with a friend once the camp is over, and seeing as membership was included in the price of the program they will also leave as official Girl Scouts.
