The City of Lima continues its effort to control stormwater runoff in the city.
A stormwater detention facility is being built at the west end of O'Connor at Melrose, just south of Robb Avenue. The 2-acre site will have an 11-thousand cubic yard pond that will collect storm water before it runs into the sanitary sewer causing basement backups and additional flooding. The project is the first in a number of stormwater improvements.
"There's additional phases coming next year and the year after and those are more pipe related and catch basin collection system related, so those will be at Melrose Avenue and to the east of Melrose," said Kirk Neimeyer, City of Lima Engineer.
This project is estimated at $304,000 and is being funded by the city's stormwater utility fee.
