The city utilities department has started tagging homes that are not following the garbage and refuse container set out violation ordinance, and by looking at some social media comments, most residents didn't know it existed.

It requires that your trash receptacle is set out no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before scheduled pick up and put away by 6 p.m. the day after pick up.

"If you get this ticket, it is a first time around a friendly warning," said Randy Kohli, head park ranger for the city of Lima. "It says that you have to take and mail it back in within 7 days, and if you do so, then it's free. The second time if you do it and get caught in that violation, it's a $25 fee that goes on to your water bill."

Refuse containers must also be stored in an area behind the front line of the home or building.
