LIMA, OH (WLIO) - As the school year comes to a close, many families in the area look forward to a favorite summer program to keep their kids busy.
Sign-up for the City of Lima's Summer Park Program is set to begin, but there are some changes parents need to take note of. Faurot Park will be the only location, as the city saw a decline in the number of college students applying to work the summer playground program. They are going to accept 75 children to be a part of the longtime summer activity, and sign-up will be first come, first served. The activities for the 8-week program will still be jam-packed with fun and interesting programming.
"We'll still be doing our field trips, guest speakers coming to the parks, keeping them as active as possible at the parks. Trying to go swimming a few times in the summer, bowling, skating, all the typical things we do throughout the summer," assured Kelsey Pughsley, Lima Parks & Recreation leader.
The Parks and Recreation Office will be open for extended hours on Monday and Tuesday, May 20th and 21st, to allow additional time for parents to sign up their children from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at their offices at 900 South Collett Street.
The program will run from Monday, June 10th, through Friday, August 2nd, for kids aged 6 to 12 years old. The cost is 50 dollars for kids who attend school inside the city limits and 60 dollars for those who attend from outside of the city limits.
