LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - They are hoping to feed more than 3,000 people on Thursday at the Lima Thanksgiving Dinner.
This is the 5th year that Compassionate Ministries of Lima has hosted the meal that was started by Chester Cary more than 30 years ago.
The turkey is sliced, the dressing is prepped, and the potatoes are bagged, all in preparation for Thursday's Thanksgiving dinner. This is the 5th year that Compassionate Ministries of Lima has hosted the meal that was started by Chester Cary more than 30 years ago. They are inviting anyone in the community that wants to have a hot meal and fellowship to join them.
"We don't want anyone to be alone on Thanksgiving Day; we want you to just come and enjoy just a wonderful time," said Jonathan Burkey, executive director of Compassionate Ministries of Lima. "There's going to be some music playing tomorrow, just great fellowship, different people at the tables. The Lima Senior basketball team is going to be here serving tomorrow. It's just going to be a fun environment, and everyone is welcome to come to enjoy the meal."
The meal is a well-oiled machine with everyone knowing their jobs, and many volunteers have been doing them for years.
People attending can get a turkey dinner with all the fixings, a bag of household goods from Proctor & Gamble, and a box of food from the West Ohio Food Bank.
"It's an awesome tradition; I love helping people out, I love seeing the community out and coming together, and I always look forward to it every year," said Andrew Lampy, a 13-year volunteer.
The doors open at 10:30 am with meal service through 1 pm. People attending can get a turkey dinner with all the fixings, a bag of household goods from Proctor & Gamble, and a box of food from the West Ohio Food Bank. There will also be a drive-through service with the line forming at Elm and Elizabeth Streets.
