Construction on the new American Township Fire Station is right on track.
The building on Edgewood Drive is under roof with interior work being completed. Fire Chief Tom Hadding says they hope to be in the building by the end of June. The 2.3 million dollar project will house three emergency vehicles, firefighter dorms, training facilities, a day room and kitchen among other amenities.
"It's double the size, we have an extra bay on this station, it's full length. Better placement for the ladder truck. In the old firehouse we had the trucks stacked. We only had a couple inches in between them so it's a big safety thing that we've fixed with the help of community supporting us," said Hadding.
Just last week, voters passed two EMS and two fire tax levies to make the new station possible. Right now, the department is being housed at the old Gold's Gym, behind Toys-R-Us off Cable Road.
