ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Sparty Friends mentoring program at Lima City Schools recently hosted a fun-filled, festive Christmas cookie-decorating event!
Like Big Brothers Big Sisters, the program pairs a small group of West Middle School students, known as "Bigs," with "Littles" from one of the four elementary schools in the district. The program aims to foster positive peer relationships, and today's event allowed the spartans to come together and celebrate the holidays by decorating cookies. The Sparty Friends enjoyed the festive treat and shared their creative ideas for decorating the cookies.
"(I'm decorating my cookie) red and white. I'm (also) going to put some sprinkles, and we got to eat at McDonald's." said Zamaya Clapper, a Sparty Friends "Little."
"It's really fun because we get to take our little brothers and little sisters to McDonald's to eat, decorate, and help them learn and get away from school for a little bit." added Zavontea Walker, a "Big" in the Sparty Friends mentoring program.
The Sparty Friends plan to reunite in January after the Christmas break.
