LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The City of Lima is continuing to work on the replacement of water service lines that have been determined to be lead.

They are required by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to replace water service lines at no cost to the homeowner. The city has mailed out 5,500 letters to residents whom they believe may have lead service lines. At this time the letter is informational, and further instructions will be sent when crews will be in your area to replace lines.

You can find out more by going onto the City of Lima website and searching for "lead lines" and you will find several packets of information.

"You will get an informational packet in the mail when we are coming to your area. So there would be information; there would be a service agreement that you would need to sign that would allow us to identify whether or not you do in fact have a lead service line. You would then sign the agreement to let us replace that line for free of charge," said Sarah Weekley, Lima Utilities deputy director.

The Ohio EPA is funding the replacement project. Weekley says they want to assure residents there is no concern about lead in city water. They monitor it regularly and are within U.S. EPA regulations.
