DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) -Â Professional bowlers from across the region are competing for cash prizes in the Dave and Diane Kill Central Open.
The Delphos Recreation Center partnered with the Professional Bowlers Association to host one of their regional events.
PBA members in the central region could register for the three-day tournament for the chance to win a top prize of $2,600. Official play will run Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Bowlers in the competition said regional tournaments help to bring more people into the sport and give small communities a chance to watch their favorite bowling stars live.
"The nice thing about bowling regionals is that we go to a lot of areas that have a big bowling community. When the PBA comes there, those fans and those people get to see some of their favorite players that maybe they've watched on TV and give them a little bit of something extra," said PBA member AJ Johnson.
"The way the regionals in this area have been ran, it gets the attention of some of the biggest bowlers, so it gives all the fans the opportunity to meet the top bowlers," said PBA member Roian Lakota.
"The greatest bowler in the world right now, E.J. Tackett, will be bowling all three of the events."
The tournament will be open to the public, and the next PBA tournament in the central region will be in Coldwater at Pla-Mor Lanes.
