The Independence Day holiday is fast approaching and final details are being completed for the 23rd Annual Star Spangled Spectacular.
The day kicks off at 8:30 in the morning with the Abilities League baseball game, with the Freedom 5K starting at 9, beginning and ending in Faurot Park. The Freedom Family Fun Ride follows along the Rotary River Walk at 11. Shuttles and concessions start at 2 p.m., along with the rides, entertainment and Veterans' Car Show beginning at 3 p.m. Main stage entertainment starts at 6 p.m. in the bowl with the Lima Area Concert Band followed by some new groups to the Star Spangled Spectacular.
"We also were fortunate enough to get the United States Army Jazz Ambassadors. They're a touring big band, not often do we get that opportunity so we're looking forward to that. And we're also bringing in a group called Phase 5, a R&B and soul group out of Detroit, who are well known for their flashy, well choreographed stage show and often are compared to The Temptations, so we are really excited about that," said Jeff Ramey. He also added that they have a few surprises in store for this years fireworks display with a true patriotic theme.
