Rain, rain go away. That's what many of us have been saying since Wednesday night when the rain began.
Now after 36 hours of rain, some areas are having issues with flooding. Flooded fields and roads are becoming common across West Central Ohio, Friday thanks to the persistent rain. Many areas have recorded two to four inches of rain, which is more than we saw the entire month of April, with an additional half-inch still expected during Friday.
An area hit especially hard has been Putnam County, which is no stranger to seeing flooding, especially along the Blanchard River. Numerous roads have been closed or blocked off and many fields have several inches of standing water on them. The Blanchard and other area rivers are expected to crest this weekend, which means high water and flooding will continue to be a threat, but the number of homes at risk is not all that large.
"It's not what you would say crazy, but it is sadly say what we do expect. There will be a handful of homes that will be affected, but since the 2007 flood which was the big flood, a lot of those homes that would normally be affected now have been mitigated or torn down," commented Putnam County EMA Director, Mike Klear.
If flooding is occurring or begins to occur near your home, sandbags are available in both Ottawa and Kalida.
