FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) — The Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office has closed its investigation into a Findlay officer-involved shooting that occurred in October.
The shooting was ruled a suicide by cop in the death of Robert Norton, 90. The prosecutor determined that the force used by the two Findlay police officers involved was justified.
Police were dispatched in October to a home on Cherry Lane, where a man later identified as Norton opened the front door and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the officers. The officers then fired their weapons, striking Norton twice in the torso and once in the thigh.
Norton was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators later determined that Norton was holding a pellet handgun at the time of the encounter. Authorities also found a suicide note on a counter inside the residence.
