LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Engines aren't the only things being revved up, but so is the community's motivation to help for a good cause.
The Happy Daz Cool Car Cruise-in took place every Wednesday during the summer. Wednesday evening, the money collected through 50-50 ticket sales was split with the winner of the raffle, and the rest of the proceeds raised throughout the summer were given to two charities selected by community members. Both the Veterans Food Pantry of Lima and the Equestrian Therapy Program received three thousand five hundred dollars to their charities.
The Cool Car Cruise-in will be back in the Lima Allen County area next May when the summer season returns.
"It's like a family. Last year, unfortunately, we got rained out. We had to do everything inside. So, we're very thankful to have no rain and a good turnout. Last I heard, we had 103 cars, maybe 105. This year, we probably averaged 80-85 cars a week; that's pretty good for a cruise-in," explained Chris Schimpf and Brian Montgomery, event organizers.
Veterans Food Pantry of Lima, Betsy Potts, added, "They have been very good to us over the past few years, and it is always something that we can always use with the raising of the prices as you go to the grocery store. We have raising prices too, so we are very grateful for it."
