KENTON, Ohio (WLIO) - Senior citizens in Hardin County are getting educated on what to do in case of an emergency.
Representatives from the Red Cross visited the Hardin County Council on Aging to educate seniors on what to do in case of an emergency situation, like heat exhaustion in the summer heat or tornadoes and fires. An instructive slideshow was presented to the attendees about the possible emergencies they could face in the area and what the best practices are to respond to those emergencies.

Red Cross officials say seniors getting educated on these situations and having a plan in place to be prepared for emergencies is half the battle.
"When you're prepared for disaster or something that happens like that, you can get through it easier than if you're not prepared, so we're trying to explain a lot of different disasters and how they can be more prepared for anything that comes their way," said David Humphrey, preparedness presenter for the Red Cross. "Hopefully you'll learn a whole lot more about what disasters are potential for this area and how they can prepare and be ready for when a disaster does strike, because most of us will experience some kind of disaster in our lives, and maybe several of them."
Seniors who attended were given an emergency preparedness kit with supplies and instructions.
