OHIO (WLIO) - Ohio’s Senate President will be moving to the House of Representatives in the next term, and he is getting ready to take over as the next Speaker of the House.

Huffman talks about taking over as Ohio’s Speaker of the House

Huffman will take over for the current Speaker of the Ohio House, Jason Stephens, in the first part of 2025.

Members of the House Republican Caucus unanimously elected Matt Huffman during a meeting earlier this month. Huffman will take over for the current Speaker of the Ohio House, Jason Stephens, in the first part of 2025. Huffman served as speaker pro tempore during a previous stint in the Ohio House. Huffman says he wants to make some changes to how it operates.

“I am going to try and do things the same way that the Senate is run. A lot of communication, try and start the meetings on time, make sure that everybody is aware of the opportunity they have. In terms of policy, collectively the Republican Caucus will determine what that is. I certainly have things that I care about. But ultimately it’s for me to meet with a lot of the new members,” says Matt Huffman, elected by house Republicans to the Ohio Speaker seat.

Huffman says he has met with many state representatives already and will continue meeting with them over the next couple of months until the whole house votes on a speaker in January.
