Activate Allen County is promoting bicycle safety after an accident claimed the lives of 5 bikers in Michigan.
A pick up truck slammed into a group of 9 cyclists in Michigan Tuesday evening, killing 5 bikers and injuring 4 others. Josh Unterbrink with Activate Allen County says the accident brings awareness to the importance of bicycle education. Unterbrink says cyclists must follow traffic laws, and drivers need to share the road with bikes.
He says the group of Michigan bikers seemed to be taking the necessary precautions, but it's important for everyone to know the rules of the road. "The more people that you have riding with you, the higher visibility, as far as bright colors go, flags on your bikes, helmets, that all helps really protect the rider when they are using shared roads and streets," said Unterbrink.
Activate Allen County is holding a bike rodeo this Fall and will continue to hold events to promote bike safety.Â
