International Amphicar Owners Club sets world record in Celina

They came from around the United States with one goal: to establish a record for the most Amphicars in one location. There were 72 cars in the official picture that will be sent off to the Guinness Book of World Records and when it is listed it will name Celina as the location of this world record gathering.

“Quite frankly I am just so honored that they did choose to do that, we got a great body of water here," says Celina Mayor Jeff Hazel. We love the fact that we have this lake here, and they chose to come back again this year.”

This is the 19th year that the Amphicars have been apart of the Celina Lake Festival and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the last Amphicar to roll off the assembly line they wanted to get a spot in the record books. The city rolled out the red carpet to the members of the International Amphicar Owners Club to thank them for the chance to make their record at Grand Lake.

Jim Golomb

Pres. International Amphicar Owners Club

“The whole community has come out, and they just went, over the top this year for us, this year," says Jeff Golomb, President of the International Amphicar Owners Club. "Welcomed us, feeding us, and just making us the part of the community. It’s a great lake and great bunch of people.”

There were just under 4000 Amphicars ever made and Golomb says there could be as little as 500 left of the unique German amphibious car. It is hard to say if the record of 72 Amphicars will stand the test of time, but Celina’s love for the vehicle and their owners will.
