ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Now that spring has arrived, it's time to do some spring cleaning.

The annual Ottawa River Clean Up is scheduled for mid-April, and volunteers are needed. Spearheaded by the Ottawa River Coalition and sponsored by several other agencies, the cleanup has gathered hundreds of pounds of trash from along the river. Hundreds of volunteers are assigned to a section of the river where they have found everything from mattresses to tires to grocery carts. The cleanup is essential to preserving our waterways.

Ottawa River Coalition Executive Director Lydia Archambo says, “You get gloves, you get grabbers, you get trash bags, you get a fun t-shirt, and you get some snackies. We send you to a certain part of the river, and you clean up. You don't get in the river, but you clean up the stretches along the river. Then you can bring all the trash back to Central Services and to a dumpster. We have select dumpsters throughout the county that you can throw it in there.”

You can sign up now, or walk-in registration is also welcome. The cleanup is Saturday, April 20th, from 9 a.m. to noon. Meet at the central services building at 900 South Collett Street.
