The Lima Allen County Building Department is continuing its efforts to provide the best service to area building professionals.

Wednesday, it was announced that the department is now able to offer a video inspection remote program. This will be an alternative to on-site inspections for follow-up inspections after the initial on-site visit. The client just has to download the zoom app to their smart device and contact the building department.

"So this would be good for minor followup inspections where we're not doing a full inspection clear through the building but this would be good for hey I just have one item left and here's all I need to do, can we do a remote video inspection? Absolutely, this is a great tool for that," explained Amy Harpster, chief building official for the City of Lima.

Another tool they have brought out is an electronic plan review process. Owner of Core Consulting, Brad Core, was the first to use the new process that allowed him to multi-task while waiting for the building department's response regarding his submitted plans.

"Instead of having unnecessary billing to my client from sitting, waiting, I was able to work on other projects. I mean the whole thing, there were no required changes on this particular set of drawings. They emailed me the state approved plans and we were off to the races with the project," said Brad Core, owner of Core Consulting.

Core said all he had to do is convert the plans to a PDF and e-mail them to the building department. He would recommend using the electronic plan review process.
