Lima-Allen Safe Community Coalition encouraging safe driving habits for homecoming season

Homecoming season is here and the Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition wants to remind teen drivers of the dangers of distracted driving.

Now through the local schools' homecoming weeks, area law enforcement will be targeting underage consumption and other risky driving behaviors to help keep young drivers safe. The Safe Community Coalition is reminding students to always buckle-up, slow down, and not to text while driving. They also want teens to avoid driving intoxicated and riding in cars driven by those who have been drinking. Homecoming should be a fun experience but unsafe choices can stop all that fun in an instant.

"These young drivers need to be aware that sometimes bad things happen when you're trying to have a good time and we want to keep those bad things from happening," says Evelyn Smith, Project Director for the Safe Communities Grant. "All you need to be is distracted for a fraction of a second and bad things happen."

Homecomings are happening in our area now through mid-October.
