LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Area Concert Band returned to the stage for the first time this season on Saturday night.
The Beat Goes On was the first of four regular concerts to be held this summer. The concert also featured two major debuts. On their brand new timpani, or kettle drums, they performed for the first time ever an original piece composed by Van Wert band director Robert Sloan, titled "Thundering Echoes." The new timpani was purchased to be shared by both the Lima Symphony Orchestra and the Lima Area Concert Band after two years of joint fundraising.
"It's absolutely wonderful. The timpani that we had were very sufficient, very good timpani, but this is definitely a class above. These will last both organizations for decades to come," said the guest solo artist and timpanist of the evening, Dane Newlove.
The Lima Area Concert Band's next performance will be "Celebrating Sousa," on June 15th at 7:30pm at the Civic Center. You can find their full schedule for 2024 here.
