LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Seniors in Lima City schools took a very important step Saturday to help with their post-secondary education.
Food + FAFSA gave students and their parents the chance to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid forms, plus pick up brunch too. FAFSAs are needed to secure funding to continue their education. Financial aid representatives from the University of Northwestern Ohio and Rhodes State College were on hand to help the students with the forms. To get the ball rolling, the Lima Senior marketing students went to the senior English classes and helped 100 seniors get signed up for their FAFSA IDs, which was needed ahead of time to fill out the form.
“It makes me feel go that we can help people in our school and around,” says Jairo Canchola, Senior, Lima Senior Marketing Student. “I feel like it makes everything easier and way faster and makes them run into less problems.”
“We have a tremendous amount of seniors up here, at Lima Senior High School, this year that are going to go on and do tremendous things,” says Scott Campbell, Lima Senior, 12th-grade Guidance Counselor. “The kids have bought into it and we are very proud of what they are doing and where they are going to go.”
Campbell says that Lima Senior is part of the Toledo Tomorrow program and if the students could not make it to the event on Saturday, one of their representatives will be coming to the school to help students sign up for FAFSA.
