LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The city of Lima gathered at Faurot Park's Rotary to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday.
The Earth Day Awareness Celebration had activities and entertainment all day to remind residents of what they can do to preserve the planet. Kids could learn about and get hands-on with compost and make crafts like flower pots. There were also educational vendors on hand to talk about topics like fair trade and growing microgreens. While you can't do much about the damage and waste caused by companies and other people, you can still make a difference by changing your own habits.
"Although we don't have a lot of control, I think it's really important for us to take the control that we have and make those choices that are going to stop plastic from flooding the ocean, and prevent landfills from being overflowing, and water from being contaminated," said Rae Neal, the director of Earth Day Awareness Lima.
Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith also spoke at the celebration, explaining how the city will soon be using solar panels on the Twin Lakes Reservoir to help power the water plant.
