LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima Memorial Health System is celebrating a milestone in helping patients suffering from severe aortic stenosis. The staff from the Heart and Vascular Institute and their patients marked their 100th Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement or TAVR procedure. The less invasive procedure is designed to replace diseased aortic valves and is more beneficial for the patients.Â
“The big benefit is it’s a very, it’s a shorter operation. It’s a much quicker recovery and it’s probably safer in the long run as well,” says Dr. Ron Pohl, LMHS Cardiac and Vascular Surgeon. “It’s most important that it’s about the patients. It’s great that they are here, and they trust us, they believe in us that we can go ahead and get this done and they don’t have to travel far away to get it done.”
For Sally Kiggins, there was no doubt where she was going to have her procedure done last fall, because the staff at Lima Memorial has always treated her like family.
“When I woke up, I wanted to see familiar faces and people I know that were going to take really good care of me,” says Sally Kiggins of had the TAVR procedure done last fall. “You know, I was going to be someone that they cared about.”
The TAVR team was presented with an award to mark the milestone number of procedures.
