LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Rotary Club heard about disaster relief efforts in the Caribbean after a volcano erupted last year.
Beth Schweizter, chief of staff for Rotary District 6600, was one of the team members that traveled to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in February of this year. She attended a project fair to get an idea of the kind of work that needed to be done on the islands. Including the "Fill the Bucket" project to help move water to irrigate crops. She says the work being done is just part of what Rotary is all about.
“Rotary is service above self, that’s what we do, not only locally but internationally too,” Schweitzer said. “The important thing in it is building up friendships and relationships, and that’s what I found when I went to Saint Vincent. The people were wonderful and by the time that we were done, I didn’t want to leave, I hated to leave those people because we became very close in a few days.”
Rotary District 6600 includes the Lima Rotary Club and 61 other clubs throughout northern Ohio.
