The Salvation Army had a goal of $21,000 and that was met thanks to the generosity of the community. The Christmas in July Campaign is an important part of the Salvation Army's operating budget to meet the needs of individuals and families during the summer months.

"We help with a food pantry for a daily basis that people can come and get food if they need. We also help with clothing vouchers if they need clothing. And then we're getting ready to do our back to school so we'll be collecting back-to-school supplies for that as well," explained Captain Charity Bender, Lima Salvation Army.

They are now getting ready for the winter assistance programs that include Christmas assistance. Sign-up is on October 4th, 5th, and 6th where they can also pick up winter outerwear.

"We need anything winter wear. So hats, coats, gloves, if they have boots, you know boots are fine too. So anything that kids can go outside and play in the snow," added Bender.

People need to make sure that they have all of their income and expense information, as well as a photo ID for the person coming to fill out. You will also need identification for anyone that lives in the household. It can be either a birth certificate or social security card.
