LIMA, OH (WLIO) - It's been one week since the tornado that devastated the Indian Lake community, and local students are doing their part to provide aid.
Freshman students at Lima Senior High School are making tie blankets to donate to people impacted by the tornado at Indian Lake. The tornado has displaced many residents from their homes, leaving them with little to no supplies to support themselves and their families. Lima Senior teacher Eric Tippie, who has spearheaded the effort, says students were anxious to help and have been lining up to do their part and help out the Indian Lake community in whatever way they can.
"It's huge, and I think a lot of the students, even before we did this, didn't realize the impact that it would have on them, and you know, I've heard a lot of conversations amongst the kids about like Hey, this is really cool that we're helping people in need and stuff like that, and not only is it a big deal that they understand because that's the whole point of a service learning project, but they're doing this for people that they don't know and they're never going to know necessarily who gets these blankets or who receives them, but that the kids are so excited, I've got kids asking if they can come down during their study hall periods. It's just a great thing for them to be able to learn giving back is always something that's important," said Eric Tippie, a Lima Senior teacher.
Over 70 blankets were made by the students and will be delivered to residents of Indian Lake in the coming days.
