The Lima Symphony Orchestra invited families to stop by the Ada Public Library Tuesday morning for a program that was both educational and entertaining.
This was the first stop in the 2019/2020 Symphony Storytime schedule. It's a program that introduces instruments to kids while reading stories that fit different themes. Tuesday's theme was "Drums for Everyone" - where percussionists showed off several types of drums and even let the kids in the audience try their hand at playing.
Bringing together stories and music seemed like the perfect way for the symphony to encourage a lifelong love of music for children.
"The music that we're playing is stuff that they can relate to," said Renee Keller, marketing and education coordinator for the Lima Symphony Orchestra. "The characters in the stories find everyday objects and turn them into percussion instruments, so hopefully they can take a little bit of inspiration from that and make some music at home."
The Symphony Storytime program continues later this month with performances at Bluffton, Delphos, and Findlay.
