LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — February is National Heart Month, and the American Heart Association is encouraging people to recognize the symptoms of heart disease and take action.

Health officials say heart disease symptoms can differ significantly between men and women. Men may experience a heaviness or pressure in the chest, while women may notice soreness or pain in the back, neck or shoulders.

Lima Women Have Heart event highlights heart disease awareness

In a show of solidarity for women affected by heart disease, the “Lima Women Have Heart” event will offer an opportunity to hear from cardiovascular professionals, connect with other heart patients and learn the importance of self-care.

“We also take time to just support one another,” said Beth Keehn, director of government and community affairs at Mercy Health St. Rita’s. “Women spend so much time taking care of everyone else that sometimes we need to take a step back. Enjoy some fellowship, have some fun, become educated and inspire one another to take care of our own health as well.”

This year’s event will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at the City Club in Lima. Tickets are on sale now and are limited to 100 guests. Organizers say tickets typically sell out quickly.

Doors will open at noon, and tickets can be purchased online.
