ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - One program has given local students insight into the profession they are hoping to enter.
These seven students are taking part in the Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Rising Star program. The program shows them the multitude of careers they can find in the medical field. It also teaches them how to create a resume and the soft skills needed to enter the workforce. The students say they are learning a lot.
LCC Senior Tegan Helmig is looking to go into physical therapy and sports medicine and had this to say about the program: “Many people don’t know what it’s like to be in the medical field. So, having this opportunity to see what it’s truly like and what I would have to do on a day-to-day basis is very eye-opening.”
LCC Senior Cole Rienhart, looking to go into dentistry, adds, “I am interested in the medical field, but it’s more of the dental side of things. So, I knew it wouldn’t be exactly what I was looking for here. But maybe you never know if you’re going to change your mind. So far, we’ve just gone around to a bunch of different departments. We’ve learned about what they do. Talk to different people, and I feel like it’s been a lot of good experience so far.”
The classes began on June 3rd and will run through June 28th. This is the third year for the “Rising Star” program at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s.
