LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Local non-profits are disappointed that Amazon is ending their donations through the AmazonSmile program.
They are ending the charitable donation program on February 20th because the company says it didn't make enough impact. Through the program, Amazon donated half of a percent of eligible purchases to a charity of the shopper's choice. The program has donated over $400 million dollars to United States charities, including some locally. Deb's Dogs was one of the recipients and while the donations were not huge, they did help.
"I think the first AmazonSmile donation was like $27 and the last one was seven hundred and some," says Deb Helser, founder of Deb's Dogs. "That is a fortune. We are all volunteer and we operate on donations. That money helps us to take care of these animals in this community."
Helser says she will be looking at other programs like AmazonSmile to help them with donations.
