Customers at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore got the chance to adopt while they shop.
A Lotta Love pet rescue and Allicats Trap-Neuter-Return program brought a litter of pups and cats to the ReStore to give them a chance at finding their forever home. The rescues like to set up shop wherever businesses will let them show people that they can find their perfect pet through adoption.
"Last time I heard I think like 7-8 million dogs and cats are being put down every year," says A Lotta Love founder Sandy McVeigh. "Don't shop, adopt. We rescued [a puppy's] mom three hours before she had the pups."
While people were getting acquainted with the available pets, the rescue volunteers were also trying to educate them on how they can help the stray cats and dogs they see around their neighborhoods.
"We are trying to educate people about community cats, how you can coexist with them," says Allicats founder Melissa Bowers. "The ones that have the ear tips, that signifies that they have been fixed, most often they've already been completely vetted so leave them alone."
