Quite a few daredevils taking to the slopes today for the annual Spring Fling at Mad River Mountain.
The day featuring cardboard sled races and the always popular pond skimming event. Several skiers and snowboarders going the distance, staying on their feet, and on top of the freezing water. This years pond was 100 feet long and lined by spectators on both sides. The Spring Fling signals that the ski and boarding season is approaching its end.
"A lot of participants, a lot of spectators, and it's all just about we want to put on a good show, have some great skiing end of the year and it's always a great time," said general manager Josh Faber.
Several Ski Patrol members and other Mad River Mountain employees taking part in the event, including featured skimmer Hooper the bartender, and today's event even too tempting for the Faber to resist.
"I love pond skimming," said Faber. "I think it's a riot and I always love participating. The crowd loves it, and we had some great participants this year."
Mad River Mountain, originally known as Valley Hi, opened In 1962 and is operated by Peak Resorts. inc.
