At the monthly Family and Children First Council meeting, Michael Schoenhofer was recognized by the group in his final meeting. Schoenhofer was a founder and member of the council since 1996. He's impressed at the growth of council and how the business has changed. Schoenhofer believes what he was able to create was an organization that broke down barriers and help keep families together in the community. Schoenhofer has been the executive director of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board since 2000.

"What we were able to do was come up with really creative ways to help kids and families stay together," said Schoenhofer. "They would come up with ideas that would literally be a unique program for this family. And I think that was probably the biggest change."

Schoenhofer will continue to volunteer around the city, but has plans to travel, continue writing, and learn to be an artist.
