Molly's Movement shows a mother and son's journey with dementia

Two Lima natives became YouTube sensations for their series, depicting a mother and son's battle with dementia. Now they're returning to Lima and our Marina Neuman has their story.

Dementia is the "long goodbye" and for Lima native, Molly Daley, her goodbye was documented by her son in a YouTube series known as "Molly's Movement".

"So let's start from the beginning. What is Molly's Movement?" asked Marina.

"My mother, when she was diagnosed we really didn't know what to expect. Myself, I thought she would just have some memory problems and it would slowly progress. You know through her having dementia, I realized the suffering she was going through and my friends and family, it was hard for me to describe what she was going through, so I went to my mother and asked her if she wanted to start a YouTube series documenting her journey with dementia and you know I told her that I thought we could probably help a lot of people, and she said you know if it's going to help people let's do it, so within a couple days I started recording," explained Joey Daley, Molly's son.

"So it kind of started as a YouTube series about you and your mom and then it kind of grew," said Marina.

"I think you know what had happened was it was a story about dementia but it turned into much more than that. It turned into love and life and different obstacles and challenges that people have in life so you know probably 40 to 50% of our group they're not dealing with dementia but they look to my mother you know for inspiration and hope and that she can get through dementia and it helps them I think get through their life struggles," said Joey Daley.

And because of those recording, Molly's story isn't ending. Her legacy is just beginning, thanks to her Facebook community and a few Wendy's frostys.

"At the end of every episode, which was nothing new, we always go to Wendy's and she would get a chocolate frosty. Wendy's and their corporate headquarters happens to just be a few miles from me so they saw that Wendy's and Molly's, Molly was trending and they called me into corporate and we worked on a few things at the beginning and they helped raise awareness. In the past few days after her passing, there's thousands of frostys, people posting photos and there was actually a location of a Wendy's in Dallas where they ran out of frostys and the manager said because of a lady named Molly," explained Joey Daley.

Now, that lady Molly is free from her suffering and she's returning home to Lima.

We're having a celebration of life on June 30th in Lima here at St. Charles. After the mass, there's a lunch at KFC. Frank is going to donate a portion of the food sales to people directly affected with dementia right here in Lima," added Joey Daley.
