LIMA, OH (WLIO) - It will be two years in February since the bombs started to drop in Ukraine as Russia started its attack on the small nation, with millions of people fleeing their homeland.
Yana Sytnyk (sit-nick), a mother of three, along with her family found their way to Lima. Her mother was already living here and she helped her family come to live with her. Sytnk will be sharing her experiences of getting to the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, crossing into Poland, and taking their first-ever airplane flight to the United States to the safety of her mother. The Center for Peace and Reconciliation is hosting Sytnyk and is hoping people come and hear what the war has done to this family.
"We are still afraid of the sound of planes that are flying above our house, they have that route. We're still afraid when somebody's gunshot that we hear outside and we're like alert if some noise happening. My kids have nightmares, still have, they had in Ukraine then," stated Yana Sytnyk, who fled war-torn Ukraine.
Sytnyk says the scars on their souls will never leave. Her presentation about their journey will be on Tuesday, January 23rd at 7 p.m. at the Center for Peace and Reconciliation located at 129 South Pierce Street here in Lima and the public is invited to attend.
