New pharmacy program

Ohio Northern University is expanding their curriculum.

Already known for their specialty's in pharmacy, the program is narrowing their studies to an even more specific focus.  Pharmacogenomics is the study of how one's genetic makeup affects a person's response to drugs. The goal of this study is to develop effective, safe medications and doses that will be tailored to a person's genetic makeup.

Students learn the science and application as they look at DNA to identify the activity of a specific drug- metabolizing enzyme. Ohio Northern University is the only school in the nation as of now to introduce this program, even establishing a blog to help students become more familiar of what it is. About 400 students at ONU are studying in the health fields and law areas relating to genetics.
