The freezing temperatures Saturday morning couldn't keep some hikers away from the trails at Hendrick Woods.
The group took on the trail despite the temperature being around only one degree. The New Year Hike is held annually and it is a chance for the group to unwind a little after the hectic holidays and catch a glimpse of animals as they made their way through the woods. The hike also helps the hikers start the new year right by being active.
"The emphasis of this hike is just to get out and walk - we don't really want to stopping and standing anyway since it's a little cold for that," said Dan Hodges, a naturalist with the Johnny Appleseed Parks District. "We're just out here to get our heart rate up, maybe work off a couple extra calories, and just have a nice time in the cold air."
The hike was on the South Trail, which is about half a mile in length.
