"I love this country, to work with people who also love this country that was my biggest reason,” explains Rumer.

After four years of service and learning the importance of teamwork and working with people all over the world. He came back to work at Spallinger Millwright, a place that he worked at before he joined up, while he was studying at Apollo. But after his time with the Navy, his approach to work was different.

“A lot more dedication goes into my job, I take a lot of pride in what I do,” added Rumer. “No matter what it is, I try and do the best I can do in it.”

November is Hire a Vet month and Ohio Means Jobs is letting companies know the advantages of hiring men and women that signed up to serve our country.

“They are very goal-focused and oriented,” says Jessie Doyle the Job Center Administrator for Ohio MeansJobs Allen Co. “They work really really well together in teams and their leadership skills. So they work really good together because they are goal-focused it can lead to great productivity.”

While companies get the benefits of military experience from their veteran employees, Spallinger Millwright wants to make sure they are also recognized for their service.

“Part of our employee benefits package is that veterans have a paid day off for Veterans Day,” says Toney Daley, Human Resources for Spallinger Millwright. “When we do the interviewing and I show them in the handbook, that is the certain day off for them only, they are pretty humbled by it.”
