ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) -Â Work will begin on Thursday to make U.S. 30 safer by eliminating motorists' ability to cross over it.
The Ohio Department of Transportation will be permanently closing the median at Defiance Trail. After the work is done, motorists driving from the north and south on Defiance Trail will only be able to turn right onto U.S. 30.
Earlier this month, a fatal crash happened at that intersection when a vehicle on Defiance Trail drove in the path of a vehicle heading east on U.S. 30. This is one of many intersections that ODOT District 1 is changing or has changed on U.S. 30 to improve safety by eliminating traffic crossings on the highway.
On two intersections in Van Wert County, they will be building an overpass and a restricted crossing U-turn intersection, as they did on Thayer Road.
