Community fundraising underway to renovate Lima skate park

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Efforts are underway to improve Lima’s more than 25-year-old skate park, located at Faurot Park, where parts of the facility have fallen into disrepair over the years.

The Lima Community Foundation has set up a way for residents to donate toward park improvements. Organizers of the renovation effort say the deteriorating conditions have limited young skaters’ ability to develop their skills and hope upgrades will support a growing number of youth and adults looking for activities in Lima.

“I think the renovations are going to build the community. It's going to get more people out there. It's a diverse community. Skateboard parks are one of the only places you're going to see the diverse age groups of kids and adults and genders, races, all kinds of people out there helping each other and involved with each other. And that's really important for our community. I likr to hold some Earth Day events. That'd be the earliest one. Then I'd like to do a fourth of July skate competition and maybe have some guys from other communities come and judge the skaters that way, it's impartial judging and it'll be fun. It'd be really fun time down there,” says Joey Baughn, skate park renovation organizer.

Baughn says renovations will begin on different sections of the skate park once enough money is raised to complete individual projects.
