ODOT is readying their 118 trucks, preparing for whatever this winter brings

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - We are a little more than 40 days away from the first day of winter, and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is ready for that first significant snow.

Over two days, ODOT District 1 will be conducting a 150-point inspection on 118 trucks they use to keep the highways snow and ice-free in the district. Besides getting the plows ready, the district also has nearly 48,000 tons of salt on hand. As the drivers are making sure their equipment is safe and ready to go, they also want to remind motorists to give them the space this winter to do their work. Because in Ohio the weather can change just that quickly.

"We had that first skiff of snow last week there on Tuesday, so you just never know it could be any day," Rod Nuveman, Highway Management Administrator ODOT District 1. "The temperatures for the next 30 days look pretty good, but with Ohio weather, we are always needing to be prepared."

The plows will not be staying on a lot of the dump trucks, because ODOT will be taking advantage of the mild weather to finish up some projects for the season.
