COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) — Motorists are being urged to watch for running deer as Ohio’s gun hunting season begins Monday morning. The seven-day gun season runs from Monday, December 1, through Sunday, December 7.
Last year, hunters harvested more than 104,000 deer during Ohio’s gun season. A bonus gun weekend is also scheduled for December 20 and 21. In this region, Hardin County, six townships in eastern Allen County, and Delaware and Madison townships in Hancock County are designated as Chronic Wasting Disease Surveillance Areas. Deer harvested in these locations must be checked to monitor the spread of the disease.
All counties in the area have a three-deer limit, except Paulding and Defiance counties, which have a limit of two. Deer can be checked online through the Ohio Division of Wildlife’s website.
