The Ohio State Highway Patrol Lima Post wants to remind drivers that plan to travel for the 4th of July to practice caution.
According to the American Automobile Association, nearly 50 million Americans plan to travel this Independence Day. In Ohio, 2.2 Million plan to travel. This means that roads are expected to be more packed with drivers eager to start their holiday.Â
The patrol states that everyone should drive safe and avoid distracted driving, as well as pay attention to the roadway at all times.
"All of our units are working today," said Justin Powell, Sergeant at the Ohio Highway Patrol Lima Post. "Everybody is out and we are out writing tickets. Writing tickets for one reason: because we want everyone to have a safe and happy holiday weekend. We do everything we can to make sure that happens. So be a little extra cautious, take a little extra time, also remember to put that seatbelt on before you leave."
The patrol also reminds drivers to never drink and drive. If you plan to drink this holiday, have a designated driver selected.
