Ohio secretary of state met with the Auglaize County Board of Elections and commissioners on Wednesday. Something he's planned to do through the year in every county.
Frank LaRose is on a mission of transparency as he meets with these boards to learn from them and share the success he's had in his first year. LaRose shared success on three topics. He said a record number of over 14,000 Ohio voters reactivated registration during list maintenance. He created a security directive, or as he called, a pre-flight checklist, to prepare for the 2020 election. LaRose wants Ohio as the most secure state to vote in.
"It doesn't matter if you're a pilot with 10,000 hours, you would never take your aircraft off without going through pre-flight checklist," LaRose said. Something as consequential and complex as running a presidential election should work the same way. And that's why our counties are working to make sure that they're taking both the physical security and the cybersecurity steps they need to take."
LaRose has also worked on civic engagement, holding mock elections in high schools and encouraging students to register to vote.
