LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Ohio State Lima's Diversity Committee tackled the topic of the book banning of African American authors.

Ohio State Lima librarian Zach Walton says books are a chance to learn more from the shared experiences of another. Over the last couple of years, there has been a sharp increase in books challenged in school and public libraries, that have subject matter that sexual orientation, racism, or violence. He spotlighted books from African American authors that have been at the top of the list for being challenged, and the importance of keeping these books on the shelf.

"Here within the library, they are welcome to read and check out anything they want," says Zach Walton, Reference and Instruction Librarian at OSU Lima. "We want to celebrate that freedom to read and to celebrate that there is a book for everybody. Anyone can come in and check out a book they want to read here."

The talk is the last event that the diversity committee is holding in honor of "Black History Month."
